some fancy place I like. MiN New York

MiN NY is one of the most beautiful stores in New York. Not only is it beautiful to look at, but with their well curated selection of international and obscure fragrances its pleasing to the other senses.
It was here that I was introduced to Miller Harris Fragrances.
Lyn Harris’ Fleur de Sel is leathery, chic, musky and with a touch of florals and driftwood. The combination creates an imagined memory of the inside of a Victorian era drawer that might house leather gloves and a sachet filled with dried narcissus.

Check out MiN for Miller Harris and the other Rare and Exclusive fragrances or just wander their beautifully curated apothecary.

Evie Falci, Artist; At her studio in Dumbo

My friend Evie was kind enough to invite me over to her studio in Dumbo to see some of her recent work. I am a huge fan of her work because the materials she uses include craft objects, like googly eyes (http://www NULL.artloversnewyork NULL.com/zine/wp-content/photos/Evie_Falci_invite NULL.jpg), and pom poms (http://farm2 NULL.static NULL.flickr NULL.com/1108/728832360_0056df0995 NULL.jpg), but the interesting mood they take on when presented in this very meditative approach that blurs the lines between sculpture and painting, is fascinating. You can see the channeling of Yayoi Kusama (http://bombsite NULL.com/images/attachments/0001/0089/kusama3_body NULL.jpg), an admitted inspiration for Evie.
Her images are spotted childlike geometric nightmares. Evie is witchy and mystical.
She dresses like a black widow and she once told me she works likes a spider, the images aren’t planned they simply come out of her, much like a spiders web.
Check out more of her work here Evie Falci (http://www NULL.eviefalci NULL.com/) or

Caroline Contillo; Associate Director of The Interdependence Project, a non-profit Buddhist Meditation Center, Brooklyn

Caroline is one of those ultra funny and super inspirational people.
She’s the only person I know that has gone on a ghost date. First with Virginia Woolf (http://www NULL.brainyquote NULL.com/quotes/quotes/v/virginiawo133097 NULL.html) and proceeded to make the dead Miz. Woolf jealous by going on a ghost date with Djuna Barnes (http://www NULL.brainyquote NULL.com/quotes/quotes/d/djunabarne388037 NULL.html)!
She is wise and cool and has a style that’s a bit ambiguous which I can really appreciate. Dirty and clean, masculine and feminine, soft and tough.
Caroline’s explanation “I’m a relaxed urban witch.”
I say perfect.
If you follow this one on twitter at iamcaroline (http://twitter NULL.com/iamcaroline), you won’t be disappointed. She is never a loss for words.

some fancy thing I like part II

YES YES YES.
Men’s shoes. I wanna be comfortable and I know these spat inspired lace up boots of glory are just perfect for that. George Esquivel’s collab with Zero Maria Cornejo back in 2010 was flawless. When people are nostalgic it’s for a time past, that time I long for was the release of this magical winter collection…

Clarice Hanna; Associate Store Director, St. John, Uptown

Clarice has a great way of taking Uptown style and making it fresh. She credits her grandparents for giving her a taste for luxury, but she of course takes her own spin on it.

“My Grandmom always told me to spend my money on traveling, and never wear red nail polish until you’re 18, nor black lingerie or you would be considered ‘easy’.”

She still maintains the most classic sensibilities, crediting jazz and Bossa Nova as her music of choice.

“When I was a kid and heard Girl from Impanema I knew when I met the man of my dreams, this song would be playing in my head, I won’t tell you if I’ve heard it or not yet.”

Her quips are just as classic as she is.

Obligatory Golden Globes Fav

I’m not big on gowns, or dressing up like a peacock because to be frank, its all very confining/uncool. It’s certainly not impossible to look both confident and comfortable in a gown, but I find something awkward about the whole thing. Feeling secure is key, the style part becomes inherent. But if you’re gonna work in Hollywood, and eventually have to starve yourself for a month (or six) to fit into something that you not only look fabulous but also confident in you gotta do it like this.

Laura Dern has more self assurance in her nude fingertips then most of your standard Hollywood starlets. This Judith Leiber dress looks amazing and she is my ideal of Hollywood cool.

Commie shoes, for some. Back to the gulag for the rest of you.

I can’t help it. I love these Stubbs and Wooten slippers. Trust the irony isn’t lost on me. Stubbs and Wooten is known for their Palm Beach style i.e. their customers are simply loafing around. Even so, their tongue and cheek designs are both hilarious and smart, and if there is a fusion of adjectives I like in regards to boys, art, and design, those two take the cake.
For a mere $475, you can custom design your own pair of Stubbs and Wooten slip-ons. Custom design with the motifs they provide of course. What kind of communists do you take them for?
